About Barney
Hi my name is Barney, I am the mascot of the Pink Ladies Breast Cancer Support Group in Guernsey.
I was introduced to the Pink Ladies and they invited me to be their mascot as Karen Leach, Breast Care Nurse had the idea that I could help women affected by breast cancer and show others that life carries on after such a diagnosis. I didn’t know what a mascot was to begin with but I needed a passport so it sounded good fun!
My first inaugural journal was with Karen walking the Great Wall of China to raise funds for breast cancer research. I had a lot of fun but my little legs got very tired! I made friends with four other mascots from England and Ireland.
Since then I have been escorting members of the support group on their travels around the world to show that there is life to be lived and adventures to be had after breast cancer.
I hope you enjoy the stories on my travelogue and find inspiration (that’s a big word for a little bear) in our journeys.
