Gary to get the party started at the Pink Ladies Coastal Walk

Here come the girls. More than 2,000 to be precise, who will be taking to the footpaths and coastal walkways as part of the Pink Ladies Sunset Coastal Walk today. Gary Burgess, the breakfast presenter at BBC Guernsey, will be getting ladies in the mood at the start line with back-to-back disco classics.

'Me and 2,000 women will be a new experience for me, and probably them.  It's a position I've never been in before, certainly not in Guernsey,' said Mr Burgess.

He said he received a call from the Pink Ladies asking if he would help them out.  'I saw it as a fantastic privilege to set them off and said yes before they had even finished the sentence,' said Mr Burgess.

The presenter said he would be playing a host of inspirational girlie tunes to get the walkers ready for the off.  'It's all my disco favourites, really,' he said.

Lady Malbon will cut the ribbon and officially get walkers on their way from Grandes Rocques car park at 6pm for the 10.5 mile walk, which takes place in partnership with the Guernsey Press.

Mr Burgess will start at Grandes Rocques, before moving to Bordeaux at 8pm where a shorter route, 3.5 miles, will join those already walking.

'After that I will be greeting everyone in Market Square, where there will be a big party and a few well deserved drinks, I'm sure' he said.

Mr Burgess said he was keen to chat to walkers and find out why they had decided to take part. 'Everyone has a story at an event such as this' he said.

Organisers have reminded those taking part that Grandes Rocques car park will be closed for the event and walkers are being urged to get lifts where possible.

Don't forget to pick up your copy of the Guernsey Press on MOnday, complete with a four page pull-out on the walk.  Pictures from the event will also be uploaded to our sister website
