Lady Malbon sends wishes to walkers

17/06/2009

THE Lt-Governors wife has sent a message of support to women taking part in Saturdays Pink Ladies Sunset Coastal Walk. Lady Malbon will cut the ribbon to set walkers off on their route to Town from Grandes Rocques at 6pm. She said she was looking forward to starting the event and wanted to wish everyone taking part the best of luck.

‘I know they will all have some special person that they will be thinking of while walking in what is a fun event as well as being an extremely worthwhile cause,’ said Lady Malbon.

The event will raise funds for the breast cancer support group and Les Bourgs Hospice.

In 2007, she and Sir Fabian, the only man to take part, completed the first Pink Ladies’ Walk which raised £100,000 for the treatment of lymphoedema, a painful condition that is often a side-effect of breast cancer treatment.
Almost 1,600 people have already signed up for this year’s event, which is being co-organised by Doreen Le Poidevin and Amanda Brown.

There are two walks - one, of 10.5 miles, starts at 6pm from Grandes Rocques and the second, of 3.5 miles, starts from Bordeaux car park at 8pm. Both finish at Market Square where The Square restaurant will host a pink party.

* Registration forms are available from the reception at Checkers, Admiral Park, Safeway in the Rohais, the Guernsey Press, Braye Road, Les Bourgs Hospice and shops, the breast cancer unit at the PEH and Bulstrode House.
They can also be downloaded from www.thisisguernsey.com or
