Pink Ladies Sunset Coastal Walk to end with party at The Square

15/06/2009

PINK Ladies Sunset Coastal walkers have a special celebration in store at the finish line on Saturday. Organisers are making final preparations and the event is expected to be bigger and better than the first walk, which attracted 2,000 women in 2007. Co-organiser and Pink Ladies treasurer Doreen Le Poidevin urged women who still wanted to take part to sign up for the walk. Registration forms can still be accessed on the Pink Ladies website get your forms in as soon as possible, she said.

‘We have well over 1,500 entries and we are getting very excited about Saturday’s event.

‘We also want to remind walkers that family and friends are welcome to join the pink party at The Square, which is our finish line.’

The Devotees will be playing live there and plenty of food and drink will be available.

The women’s clothing shop, Joy, will decorate its windows in pink and will be offering £5 off anything over £35 with a donation going to the breast cancer charity.

Either a percentage of the night’s takings or a set amount per transaction will be handed over.

Manager Vicki Stunell said the shop would stay open until 10 or 11pm after shutting at 6pm to sort out the pink display window.  ‘We just want to get that silly, happy feeling about it, even though it is a serious topic,’ she said.

She said it was important to raise money for the charity because so many people were affected by breast cancer.

‘It runs in my dad’s side of the family and my mum is at an age where she needs regular screening,’ she said.

This year’s Pink Ladies’ Sunset Coastal Walk has been organised in memory of Anne McMillan.

She was a co-founder of the local breast cancer support group, but died of an unrelated cancer.
