Speech Roger Allsopp

22/06/2013

We were honoured that Roger Allsopp agreed to start this year's Sunset Walk. A lot of ladies missed his speech as they started early because of the awful weather, so here's what he said........

It is a great honour for me to start the Pink Ladies Sunset walk.

This is the most spectacular, emotional and important event in Guernsey since the last walk two years ago.

The Pink Ladies Charity is formed by women who are suffering or who have suffered from breast cancer. They aim to help others with the condition.

Although early diagnosis and better treatment has vastly improved the outcome of breast cancer the Pink Ladies have been there for those who have not done so well and who are sadly departed. This walk today is an opportunity to spend a few moments to pay respect to family and friends who have succumbed to the disease for they would have been with us if only they could.

Primarily however this walk is a celebration of triumph over adversity. The walk is going to be tough for some of you but you will enjoy it despite the weather.

The money raised tonight will go towards the new breast unit at the hospital. HSSD are building a good unit, the extra funds will make it the best unit, a very special place, comfortable, peaceful and private with every thing and everybody to hand.

This will be the start of a new chapter in care. It is a truly great cause.
