Move sees sports shop in the pink

07/06/2011

FLETCHER SPORTS on the Bridge has stepped out in style to urge women to take part in the Pink Ladies Sunset Coastal Walk later this month. Following its recent move to the corner of South Side and New Road, staff dressed one of its windows with the coastal walk theme using a mannequin decked out in pink sports gear and a feather boa.

Manager Ben Ferbrache said the display had already attracted people into the shop to pick up an entry form.

'Even before we opened, people were stopping and looking in the window because it was something different,' he said.

He explained why the shop, which sells lots of pink, high-visibility sportswear, was supporting the charity event that helps raise awareness, funds and offers support for breast cancer patients in Guernsey.

'It's a local charity and the money is all used locally.

'Quite a lot of people suffer from breast cancer so quite a few people know someone who has had it.'

Entries are still being welcomed and the store will be one of several
organisations entering a team of 10. This is a special feature of the walk this year to help mark the Pink Ladies' 10th anniversary. One lucky group will be in with a chance of winning an afternoon tea at the Old Government House Hotel.
Shop assistant Sue de Jersey said she was looking forward to taking part in the event on Saturday 18 June.

'It's nice to do something for charity and to help people affected by the disease.'

When first launched in 2007, the coastal walk attracted more than 2,000 participants of all ages and raised more than 100,000 for local breast cancersupport. Since then it has gone from strength to strength.
The Guernsey Press is again media partner for the walk, which this year has Sandpiper CI as its main sponsor.

Walkers of every generation including mums, daughters and grandmothers are urged to take part in the all-women event, although children must be accompanied by an adult.

While men are not involved with the walk, those who wish to volunteer to help out with the after-walk party at Market Square should contact
the organisers via pinkladies@cwgsy.net or call 07781415131.

All family and friends are also welcome to join in the celebrations, which will feature outfit prize-giving awards and Abba tribute band Sensation.

Entry forms are available from Guernsey Press reception and are
downloadable from our website at www.thisisguernsey.com.

They are also available from Curves Fitness Studio, the Breast Cancer Unit andthe Bulstrode Oncology Unit at the PEH.

Other locations include Pasty Presto, Costa Coffee, Wine Warehouse, Hotel Chocolat, Iceland, Checkers Xpress food halls, Fletcher Sports shops, Boots and Le Friquet Garden Centre.
