Businesses urged to back Pink Ladies Sunset Walk

BUSINESSES are being urged to get behind the Pink Ladies’ Sunset Coastal Walk. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the charity, a local support group that offers advice and help with and raises awareness of breast cancer.

The walk was first staged in 2007 and attracted more than 2,000 women and girls. It raised more than £100,000 and since then has gone from strength to strength, providing funds to help pay for locally available treatment for lymphoedema, a side-effect of the disease.

This year – to celebrate its milestone birthday – as well as individual entrants, organisers are hoping to see teams of 10 coming forward to take part in the walk on Saturday 18 June.

There is a choice of two routes to suit all abilities, both meeting up en route and finishing in Town at the same time.

The first starts at 6pm at Grandes Rocques and is 10.5 miles long. The shorter is around 3.5 miles and starts at Bordeaux at 8pm. Walkers then gather for a party in Market Square, featuring Abba tribute band Sensation.

Always a fun occasion, it attracts women of every generation including colleagues, mums, daughters and grandmothers (all children must be accompanied by an adult).

Walkers are encouraged to dress in pink and there are prizes for best outfit.
The Guernsey Press is again media partner for the walk, which has attracted support from several local businesses, including this year’s main sponsor Sandpiper CI.

Watch out for more stories and updates about the walk in the Guernsey Press, the Globe, our thisisguernsey website, our Facebook page and Twitter.
