DR PAUL TOWNSEND, the University of Southampton’s principal research leader for breast cancer, will be giving a presentation on the ground-breaking findings of Guernsey’s Breast Cancer Project.

It is funded by the charity, Hope for Guernsey, and local women have been donating blood samples for research since 1969.

So far, a new protein associated with breast cancer, called BAG 1, has been identified and cutting-edge technology has demonstrated protein markers, which could one day help scientists to develop a simple blood test that could help early diagnosis of breast and other cancers.

The presentation will begin at 7pm on Wednesday with a drinks reception.
Tickets are available from Lara Le Pelley or Pam West at the Medical Specialist Group on 238565 or from Emma Mauger at the event’s sponsor, Carey Olsen, on 727272.

Dr Paul Townsend will speak of the ground-breaking findings of Guernsey’s Breast Cancer Project which has been using blood samples taken from local women over a period of almost 40 years.
