Bel Canto to sing for Pink Ladies

FEMALE choir Bel Canto will stage its first ever concert in October to raise money for the Pink Ladies Breast Cancer Support Group.

An Audience with Bel Canto will feature a range of songs by the Eisteddfod-winning group, in styles such as gospel, folk, pop as well as some traditional Spanish pieces. The event will also include guest appearances from a number of local musicians.

‘We thought it was time that we staged our very own concert,’ said conductor Christine Anthony, who started the 20-strong choir in 2002.

‘We chose the Pink Ladies to support because, being an all-female group, we are more than aware of the impact breast cancer has, since many of us have been touched by it in some way. The Pink Ladies offer invaluable support and I hope we can raise as much money as possible.’

During Bel Canto’s six years together it has sung in a number of concerts for other musical groups and for many church events, but has never staged its own concert.

The event, which will be sponsored by De Putron Fund Management Guernsey Ltd and Butterfield Bank, will be at 8pm on 11 October at St James. Tickets are £10 for adults, or £6 for OAPs and students, and are available from the St James box office.
